History

Mr. Busse founded the firm in 1981, after serving as Chief Deputy County Counsel for Multnomah County, Oregon's most populous county. He was educated in California, and graduated from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, in San Francisco in 1974. He was admitted to practice law in Oregon in 1974, and began practicing employment law the following year. From 1975 to 1981 he defended corporations and government bodies in discrimination and other civil cases.

In 1981 he founded the firm, intent on building a plaintiff's employment law practice. By 1985 his work was almost exclusively devoted to helping employees in discrimination, wrongful discharge, and other employment cases. He has been a frequent lecturer and author in the area ever since. In 1989 he was first nominated by his peers to be listed in "The Best Lawyers in America," and has been listed in every subsequent annual edition of that publication for labor and employment law in Oregon. Martindale-Hubbell has awarded him its highest rating, "AV," for legal ability and ethics. He is a Fellow of both the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Society of Barristers, peer-selected honor societies for trial lawyers. In the 2003-2004 edition of "Chambers U.S., America's Leading Business Lawyers," he was awarded its highest individual rating for plaintiff's employment lawyers in Oregon. In 2007 he was named one of Oregon's top 10 lawyers in "Super Lawyers," a peer review based ratings company.

Mr. Busse has published articles on employment law since 1981. He is the author of three published books on the subject, including "Your Rights at Work" (Sphinx 2005) and "Fired, Layed Off or Forced Out" (Sphinx 2005), which are currently in print and distributed nationally.
